Veterinary Surgeons

Alan Shackleton BVSc(Pret), CertVR, Advanced practitioner in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging, MRCVS.

RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging

Alan studied Veterinary Science at Onderstepoort in South Africa and qualified in 1990.  Alan’s main areas of interest are radiography, ultrasonography, surgery, dentistry and cardiology.   Alan studied radiology whilst  working full time and achieved his Certificate in Veterinary Radiology in 1998.

Alan has continued with his professional development and has achieved the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons’ Advanced Practitioner status.  This provides a clear indication to the profession and the public of those veterinary surgeons who have been accredited at postgraduate certificate level (Masters level 7), and who have not only demonstrated knowledge and experience in a particular area of veterinary practice beyond their initial primary veterinary degree, but who have also confirmed that they continue to be up to date in their field over and above our minimum requirements for continuing professional development (CPD).

René Shackleton BVSc(Pret), MRCVS

René also studied Veterinary Science at Onderstepoort in South Africa and qualified in 1990.  René’s main areas of interest are medicine, diagnostics and therapeutics.

Both Alan and René have worked continuously in practice since they qualified and regularly attend continuing education courses, which has given them a huge pool of experience from which to draw from in the running of their practice.  They both worked in a variety of practices before coming to the UK in 1993 to see Europe and pursue post graduate studies.  During their  time in the UK they have worked in practices in Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire before finally deciding to open their own practice in Potton in  2005.  They chose to stay in Potton because they had been living here since 1998,  loved it here and felt at home.   Alan and René continue to live in Potton with their 3 children and 2 border terriers, who keep them busy when they are not working in the practice.
